Makar Sankranti in the jhuggi bastis: hundreds of blankets, and a 1,100 target met

Makar Sankranti in the jhuggi bastis: hundreds of blankets, and a 1,100 target met

On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, on 14 January 2023, the team of Pahal Welfare Foundation provided hundreds of blankets to poor and needy people in the jhuggi-jhopdi settlements of the Sector 8 area of Noida, to protect them from the cold wave.

North India was in the grip of severe cold. The foundation's team was making an effort every day, with its resolve intact, to save poor people from that biting cold.

Foundation president D.K. Singh said that in January that year the cold was harsher than expected, leaving poor people living in the jhuggi settlements in distress. The administration had imposed GRAP stage 3 in Delhi-NCR because of the cold and rising pollution, under which lighting fires or braziers in the open was completely banned — so in such a situation only blankets could bring the needy relief from the cold.

He said the team had decided to distribute blankets continuously from the previous month, and that for some years the organisation had been distributing blankets among the poor and needy every year to give them relief from the severe cold. In that same sequence the organisation had reached its set target of 1,100 blankets, running the distribution campaign from December onwards, and had successfully completed its declared winter resolve.

Present in the programme were president D.K. Singh, Anil Chauhan, Rajeev Chatterjee, Deepak Chauhan, Ravindra Kumar, Anshu Sharma, Jitendra, Bhola, Dharampal and Kunal, among hundreds of members.
